Age: 17 (ARR) - 24 (DT)
Height: 6'9"
Hair Color: Dark Brown w/ Pink Gradient
Eye Color: Bright Gold
Notable Feature: White Freckles across his cheeks & nose

quiet • idealistic • determined • selfless • kindReserved and unassuming, Khaliun's gentle nature often seems at odds with his status as the Warrior of Light. He speaks rarely of himself, preferring to let his actions speak for him, and constantly seeks out ways to help others. His kindly disposition, however, hides a incredibly fierce and tempestuous soul. Motivated by an intense desire to prevent others from suffering the way he did as a child, Khal will not hesitate to unleash swift brutality on any threat--especially from Garlemald.

EHLI'A YUKHI
Ehli'a was born with his Echo abilities already awakened. Orphaned shortly after his birth, he was begrudgingly raised by his mother's surviving family in the Black Shroud and was seen as a very strange, unsettling child; he knew the secrets of everyone he met and could voice their thoughts aloud, he could share in their emotions and pain, and even predict the future. Once he realized how invasive and ostracizing these abilities were, he swore off using them entirely and became desperate to be seen as normal.
At just shy of seventeen summers, he convinced his only childhood friend, Uhzu, to abandon tradition and run off to Ul'dah together so they could start a new life where no one knew about his strange powers. Life in the city was initially difficult for the teenaged pair, their situation exacerbated after Uhzu ended up pregnant with their first child–Luhk’a.Ehli'a, desperate to provide for his partner and infant son, took up adventuring in order to make some much needed gil. He quickly gained a reputation for accepting extremely dangerous jobs, his uncanny luck seeing him through even the most dire situations. Ehli’a, though, was resistant to leaning into his growing fame, afraid that it would be connected back to his abilities again. He spent the next several years trying to downplay his achievements while also maintaining steady work to support his growing family.Nine years after moving to Ul'dah and thirteen years after rejecting the use of his Echo abilities, Ehli'a began having increasingly intense visions urging him to come to the aid of an unknown Auri child. Unlike before, he was unable to ignore or suppress these visions. He was plagued day and night, unable to work or sleep, until he was finally forced to answer Hydaelyn's call.KHALIUN DAZKAR
Much of Khaliun's early life is a mystery. At barely four summers, he was taken from his home on the Steppe in a violent attack by Garlemald and used as a test subject in the Empire's aether experiments. Due to both his age and the trauma of the situation, Khal remembers little of his time as a captive and nothing of his life before.
SOULS ALIGNED
Guided by Hydaelyn, Ehli'a intercepted a Garlean transport outside Baelsar’s Wall and rescued Khaliun. The entire ordeal left Khal deeply traumatized and he did not speak for several years. Khaliun was close in age to Ehli'a's own two children, and with no way to return the Auri boy to the Steppe, Ehli'a opted to adopt him into his family. He hoped that giving Khal a safe home would help the boy heal.
Ehli'a quickly realized that he and Uhzu were unprepared to integrate a child as emotionally scarred as Khal into their family. While they did their best to support Khal and show him that he was safe and loved, he still struggled to overcome his traumatic past -- leading to the development of a severe anxiety disorder and difficulty with communication. Unsure of how to properly address these issues, Ehli'a spent a lot of time with Khal utilizing his Echo abilities again to translate the emotions Khal couldn't put into words. However, despite Khaliun's difficult start in life, he largely had a good childhood with the Yukhi family. Ehli'a and Uhzu loved Khal as one of their own, and, after a tough few years, Khal began to open up to them and talk again. Eventually, Khal began to take an interest in Ehli'a's adventuring, and Ehli'a opted to train him in basic forms of fighting. This fostered Khal's desire to become an adventurer himself. At seventeen summers, Khal traveled to Gridania to begin his adventuring career.

A REALM REBORNDue to Ehli'a's moderate amount of fame around Ul'dah, Khaliun opted to travel to Gridania to begin his adventuring career. He was determined to start making a name for himself and leapt at any opportunity that came his way, quickly drawing the attention of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.Because of Khal's unorthodox upbringing, he initially found it very difficult to communicate effectively with his newfound comrades. He rarely spoke and, when he did, it often came off as either too blunt or too hesitant. He struggled to find the appropriate middle ground without someone like Ehli'a around to translate his feelings. The introduction of Alphinaud only exacerbated the problem, as he often talked over or dismissed any attempts Khal made at speaking up for himself--a dynamic that would plague their relationship for quite awhile. However, despite some personal frustrations, Khal was eager to prove himself, and the Scions were eager to make use of Khal's considerable talent in battle.Khal threw himself fully into the work offered by the Scions, happy to run any little errand and fight any creature if it meant he was contributing to making the world a safer place. He handled himself professionally, if a little aloof, emulating the adventurers he had watched come and go from the Quicksand for years. He was careful to keep his emotions to himself and worried over anyone discovering his recurring panic attacks or easy tears. The summoning of Ifrit and resulting fallout strained his resolve, and Minfilia noticed enough to reach out to him. She was kind and patient, allowing Khal enough time to find his words and express more of his feelings. They were of similar dispositions and bonded over their shared Echo abilities. Ehli'a had always been unwilling to discuss the Echo, so Khal was largely unfamiliar with the extent of his powers. While Minfilia could not answer all of his questions regarding their gift, their relationship strengthened and Khal felt he had a real ally in her.Thancred also made things easier, as he recognized Khal from his time in Ul'dah and was one of the few that treated him as a local instead of assuming he was new to Eorzea. They had crossed paths a few times over the years, mostly when Khal had still been a child haunting the Quicksand, and Thancred was fond of him. Yda teased Thancred over the fact that she was able to recruit Khal into the Scions’ ranks before him, but Thancred had avoided recruiting Khal on purpose due to Ehli'a’s reputation of being a bit overprotective of his adopted son. He was more than happy to let Yda deal with that eventual mess. Khal, for his part, admired Thancred and had since their first encounter years ago. For the first time in his life, Khal began to feel like he might have friends. Then the attack on the Waking Sands by Livia hurled Khal onto a path of confrontation with Garlemald. He did not allow himself to process the horror of the event, instead single-mindedly pushing his emotions down in order to forge ahead in his rescue efforts. Prior to this experience, every interaction with Garlean soldiers had left Khal a shaking nauseous mess. The shadowed memories of the abuse he suffered at the hands of the Empire still haunted him and had not lessened with time. It took every onze of his self control to not reveal this gnawing weakness to Alphinaud. He knew that if he faltered for even a moment in his pursuit, he would shut down completely and become unable to help the surviving Scions. With this mindset, Khal rushed headlong into Coerthas.Khal, for all his trauma, had still been raised incredibly sheltered, and he knew almost nothing of the frozen northern reaches of Eorzea. He had no idea that a Xaela warrior asking questions around Camp Dragonhead would immediately draw the wrong sort of attention and he was completely taken off guard by his negative reception. Things certainly would have gone much worse if Haurchefant had not stepped in and offered his assistance. Relieved to receive any measure of help in their endeavor, Khal made short work of the false inquisitor and the retaking of Stone Vigil. He also chanced to meet Alberic and quickly took to the role of Dragoon. Khal had long since cut ties with the Lancer’s guild and had been without formal training ever since he’d officially joined the Scions. With a soul crystal in hand and access to powerful new abilities, Khal felt ready to strike at the Empire directly.Much of the actual rescue of Minfilia, Urianger, Papalymo and Tataru was a blur to Khal. Wearing the Imperial uniform even as a means of infiltration made Khal sick to his stomach, and he was itching out of his own skin in desperation to just start smashing heads. This sense of desperation persisted even after the revelation that Thancred had been possessed by Lahabrea, and Khal felt as though he was in freefall through every subsequent fight. His encounters with Rhitahtyn sas Arvina and Livia sas Junius were quick and brutal affairs. Khal wished Gaius had been the same; he couldn’t stand to listen to the man speak and it only fueled the sense of wild vengeance in his chest. Looking back, Khal knew he pushed too far–too single-minded in his desire to crush Gaius–and left himself open to the Ascian’s attack. He knew Hydaelyn had intervened. He didn’t remember the specifics, his body hardly felt like his own after Ultima was destroyed, but Garlemald had suffered and Thancred had been saved. That was all Khal needed.

POST PRAETORIUMEver the concerned father, Ehli'a tried to keep an ear out for news of his son's accomplishments. He hesitated, however, to check in too much, as he was proud that Khal was capable of taking on this endeavor alone. Ehli'a remembered how difficult it was for Khal to do anything on his own as a child, so he never wanted to undermine the self-sufficiency Khal had worked hard to develop. This meant he was rather blindsided by the news that his shy son was in fact the famed Warrior of Light. Ehli'a kept his distance until Praetorium; when his Echo forced him to witness the moment Lahabrea struck Khal down and Hydaelyn's subsequent intervention resurrected him. Distraught, Ehli'a sought out the Scions and confirmed that Khal was alive and well. Unfortunately, the visions did not stop, and Ehil'a began to experience recurring dreams of Khal's death. Unable to determine if these visions were warnings or prophecy, he asked to formally join the Scion's ranks.Khal, for his part, appeared distressingly unfazed by the events of Praetorium. The elation of defeating Gaius and striking such a decisive blow to Garlemald had drowned out the uglier memories of the night. Khal hardly remembered his brush with death and no one, save Ehli’a and Thancred, even knew that it happened.Thancred, in turn, pulled back in his interactions with Khal. When Khal joined the Scions, he had initially gravitated toward Thancred out of familiarity, and they’d developed a tentative friendship. Perhaps influenced by Khal's closeness with Minfilia, Thancred had briefly begun to see Khal as something like a younger brother. However, after the events of Praetorium, their entire dynamic shifted. Thancred rarely interacted with Khal or allowed himself to work one-on-one with him, and he was always keenly aware of Ehli’a’s presence within the Rising Stone. Khal assumed that the fault was his own, and although that was furthest from the truth, Thancred never corrected him.

THE CRYSTAL TOWERG'raha Tia’s first impression of Khaliun was, truthfully, a little underwhelmed. He had heard of Khal's recent exploits and was excited to meet this Warrior of Light. However, in person, Khal was quiet and unassuming. Were it not for the rarity of seeing a Xaela in Eorzea, G'raha would not have picked him out as the famed adventurer at all. He didn't have much of a mind for history or books and didn't even realize G'raha had been the one teasing him throughout his quest to collect the aethersands. Their relationship started on the wrong foot, awkward and with mismatched expectations.Khal, however, almost instantly developed a crush on G'raha. He was taken in by the Miqo'te scholar's passion and enthusiasm, easily charmed by G'raha's confident performance. Khal's lack of experience with personal relationships left him falling hard and fast into puppy love and he wasn't adept enough at managing those emotions to reign in his feelings. So he pined desperately, too shy and uncertain to voice his affection, and tried to silently impress G’raha with his fighting abilities.Over the course of exploring the Tower, G'raha did begin to develop a genuine fondness for Khal. He realized that Khal was incredibly sincere and interested in helping G'raha succeed. Despite not comprehending a lot of Allagan history, Khal was a good listener and didn't mind letting G'raha talk for bells about what they might find in the Tower. He shared in G'raha's excitement and routinely offered to help G'raha with small tasks. They enjoyed each other's company and spent many nights looking at the Tower from their camp in Mor Dhona. It was Khal's first crush and an excellent distraction from the increasingly more complicated political dealings of the Scions. The more that G'raha began to reciprocate the attention that Khal was giving him, the more Khal began to believe he might actually have a chance at a real relationship–but then G'raha sealed himself inside the Crystal Tower.Khal was absolutely devastated. On one hand, he understood that they both had responsibilities larger than themselves and that this was not a personal failing. He realized that if he intended to keep being the Warrior of Light he too would have to make sacrifices and sometimes give up his own happiness for the greater good. But also… he was eighteen years old and just had his first real heartbreak. He let that bitter hurt fester. He felt stupid that he thought someone might actually be interested in him, ashamed of the self delusion and private fantasies. All those harbored feelings were ripped away so suddenly and he had been too much of a coward to at least confess them before G'raha closed the door–maybe then he would have felt more closure.Embarrassed by his own emotions, he buried them deep down and threw himself back into Scion work. Killing primals came far easier to him than attempting to navigate interpersonal relationships anyway. He never told anyone that he was close to G'raha. The Scions didn’t notice anything wrong with him, he just seemed as quiet as ever.

THE BLOODY BANQUETEhli'a hated the Crystal Braves. While Khal was pulled in every direction at the whims of the Scions, Ehli’a helped with the arrival and resettling of the Domans. All the while, he kept a critical eye on the development of Alphinaud’s Grand Company. Ehli’a was far too new to the Scions to hold much sway in their workings, but he voiced his concerns to Khal several times. Ehli’a had other concerns as well, namely how Khal had been running himself ragged to fight an endless slew of primals and take on an absurd amount of side quests, but he knew that particular criticism would be unwelcome to his newly independent son. So he held his tongue. He wished he hadn’t.The Keeper of the Lake upended everything. Midgardsormr struck at something deep in Khal–the growing realization that his desire to be a hero was backed by no real convictions or beliefs. Khal jumped at every opportunity to prove himself a hero, taking any job and any direction from those he believed knew better. This also worsened his already strained relationship with Alphinaud, as Khal began to distance himself in an attempt to establish his own autonomy as the Warrior of Light. He feared that he was seen as more of a weapon than a person, feared he wasn’t actually doing any good at all, but he still lacked the strength to voice these concerns–or any vulnerable feelings at all–to anyone else. He declined to even reveal his lost Echo to Minfilia or Ehli’a. After Moenbryda and Wilred and the Ascians– everyone had enough to deal with anyway. The Bloody Banquet was an absolute shattering point. Khal had been excited about the event–it was something of a homecoming. He stopped by his parent’s house beforehand to see his mother, Uhzu, and younger sister, Lihla, and Ehli’a accompanied him to the banquet. Khal assured himself that this was proof he wasn’t on the wrong path, that he was truly making a positive difference in the world... and then everything went completely wrong. The Sultana dead, his allies lost, his family endangered, accused of regicide in his own city; Khal barely made it to Camp Dragonhead before he broke down in a mortifying way. Haurchefant risked everything to offer him aid and Khal repaid him with a display of ugly, gasping, humiliating tears. His dream of being a hero was dead.

Luhk'a Yukhi

Khaliun's Adoptive BrotherRace: Miqo'te, Half Seeker of the Sun, Half Keeper of the Moon
Age: 22 (ARR)
Height: 5'5"
Hair Color: Strawberry Blonde
Eye Color: One Blue, One Purple
Notable Feature: facial scars due to injury during the Calamity

[WIP]Khal's introduction into the family resulted in immediate tension between he and Luhk'a. Khal's refusal to speak and inability to engage with other children was extremely off putting to Luhk'a, and he resented the way Khal suddenly took up so much of his parent's attention. Especially Ehli'a, whom Khal had formed an intense attachment to.Luhk'a spends the first year after Khal's arrival alternating between ignoring him and being actively hostile to the other boy. (Before finally begrudgingly accepting Khal as his brother.) While Khal later assures Luhk'a that he doesn't harbor any ill will over the treatment and that he understands how difficult the situation was for everyone, Luhk'a still feels guilty for the way he acted. On top of that, Luhk'a is far more bookish and private than the rest of his family. He's more interested in academic pursuits, further separating him from the easy camaraderie that Ehli'a and Khal share. While he never voices his frustration, Luhk'a begins to feel that Khal is the kind of son his father wanted and that he will always fall short in comparison.Despite this strained relationship, Luhk'a does still care deeply for his brother and often goes out of his way to keep tabs on Khal's adventures.

Lihla Yukhi

Khaliun's Adoptive SisterRace: Miqo'te, Half Seeker of the Sun, Half Keeper of the Moon
Age: 16 (ARR)
Height: 5'0"
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Blue
Notable Feature: inherited her dad's bushy eyebrows
[WIP]Lihla does not remember a time that Khal wasn't a part of her life. She was just three summers when Ehli'a brought Khaliun home, and she was the quickest to see him as a part of the family. His oddities never stuck out to her, and his quiet constant presence was a comfort. As the baby of the family, Lihla was a bit of an indulged child. Khal, especially, liked to spoil her, and would often go to great lengths to fulfill her childish demands. He liked to feel helpful and Lihla took advantage of this a little. As they got older and Lihla became more aware of the issues between her brothers--as well as Khal's generally social problems--she took it upon herself to be protective of Khal. (Even if he didn't necessarily need it.)[ARR]Lihla has always had heroic aspirations and dreams of following in the footsteps of other legendary heroes. Having a somewhat famous father and a much more famous brother has hardly deterred her from her goal. At 16 summers, she plans to begin her adventuring career soon.

HARBINGER

The light of five Wardens proved too much for Khal. The excess light aether wove itself into the fabric of his near-shattered soul, unable to be removed without unraveling his very being, and it was only through Ehil'a's and Ryne's desperate efforts that he avoided losing his mind completely during his partial transformation. He was corrupted to his core and retains many sineater traits, even his soul crystal has been warped into something entirely new -- Harbinger.
